Before you book
Is this walk for me?
How we grade walks — and the honest test of whether a walk suits you.
We grade every walk on three things, and the grade is about you, not the scenery.
Easy — under 4 hours, gentle gradients, no scrambling. If you walk regularly and can manage a flight of stairs without stopping, you will be fine.
Moderate — 6 to 9 hours, sustained climbing, uneven ground. You should be exercising in some form already. The difficulty is rarely one hard section; it is being on your feet all day.
Challenging — multi-day, carrying your own kit, long days, remote ground where turning back is itself a half-day. Previous multi-day experience expected.
The honest test
Ask yourself whether you could do two-thirds of the stated hours, on a hot day, and still enjoy the last third. That is what the day actually asks of you. Arriving underprepared does not just spoil your day — the group moves at the pace of the slowest person, and on a long route that can mean finishing in the dark.
If you are not sure
Tell us honestly what you do in a normal week and we will tell you which walk fits. We would much rather put you on the right one than sell you the hard one.
Still not sure?
If this did not answer it — especially anything about a health condition or whether a walk suits your fitness — ask us and a person will reply.
